Carbon Compounds
I’ll sleep tonight, and wait to see you tomorrow
clean this mess, wipe away the traces
I’ll dream tonight, and pensively contemplate
tip-tapping my fingers across
just maybe to catch you in my hands
this person so many-layered
doesn’t know who she could be
so she picks and chooses,
picks and chooses,
you, you, you, you
you’re the only one I love right now
and I’ll do anything to get you in my grasp
and I’ll never, never let you go
so please, please stay
sweet smiles that hide the glimmer of tears
a high-pitched voice to startle the sadness
intrusive to blend like a lizard
until there is no dissimilarity
until there is no odd one out
so she smiles (it’s an easy way to hide
because they’ll never find her)
it’s like following the denner round and round
just out of their imagination
and then they turn around
but there’s no one there.
the curtain is rising, quick, get ready
she bows, slowly, gracefully
these angles that all meet precisely
just one degree off there
a dissatisfied frown
she rises and this knowing look in her eyes
this cup that is broken
these shards of paint that scatter her hair
into a thousand gleaming points
points so parallel
so marvellous
she smiles, then, this huge aurora enveloping
everything
the silk unravels, and there lie the lies,
an isthmus of threads
so, you know, I’ve picked you
so I’ll run after you till I have you in my grasp
then I’ll throw you away, it’s very simple I promise
it’s not at all difficult
it’ll be okay, you’ll see
there’ll be someone else, you won’t be jealous
will you?
this is only déjà vu, ma chèrie
and you are just one of my chess pieces
but stay, stay, stay, please stay
for this moment
